Chili’s data breach compromises customers’ info

New IdentityTheft Scam

NATIONWIDE – Chili’s customers are warned that their payment information might have been compromised after a data breach over the course of two months.

Restaurant officials said the incident spans from March to April 2018. It is believed that malware was used to compile credit and debit card numbers along with cardholder names from in-restaurant purchases.

A third-party team of forensic experts are investigating the breach to determine how it happened. Chili’s was made aware of the breach on May 11.

If you dined in a Chili’s during the breach there are some tips to follow to see if you were affected.

How to find out if your info was compromised:

  • Fraud alert: Add fraud alert to credit file at Equifax, Experian and TransUnion. This way creditors will contact you before accounts are established in your name. Call auto fraud line at 1-877-478-7625
  • Security freeze: Place a security freeze on your account by contacting Equifax, Experian and TransUnion. This will keep your account from being shared with potential creditors and prevent identify theft
  • Watch bills: Keep a close eye on your bills, statements and mailing lists. Review bank accounts for purchases potentially not made by you
  • Credit report: Check out your credit report
