Employers offer identity protection solutions

New IdentityTheft Scam

Nampa, (ID) – Everyone’s identity is unique just like your fingerprint. The big difference though, your fingerprints aren’t all over the internet but your personal information is.

Dale Dixon at the Better Business Bureau said in today’s world he is seeing more and more cases involving identity theft.
He recommends using an identity protection plan.

“So in researching, you want to make sure that you are dealing with a very reputable company that is offering identity theft protection,” Dixon said.  “You want to understand what is covered, i.e insurance, and you want to know what the company would do should your information be compromised.”

Heidi Butler is the Human Resources Director at Channel 6.  E.W Scripps employs 10,000 people nationwide and 150 here in the Treasure Valley.

This year Scripps added an identity protection plan as an option during open enrollment.
She said Scripps is saving its employees a lot of headaches and some cash.

“One of the benefits is time. So we are saving you time and effort because we have already done the research. We also have a reduced cost,”  Butler said.

Although it might seem like a foreign concept to you Bulter said more companies will be taking this route.

“So we are trying to stay on top of the trends. What do our employees need today versus yesterday, and identity theft is a big issue,” she adds.
Before you sign on the dotted line, Dixon said ask these question.

“Does this follow me. Is it something I can buy like Cobra if I leave the company,” Dixon said.

” Its similar to voluntary life insurance that you can purchase through your company. When you leave, you just have to transition from a company benefit to an individual benefit,” Butler said.
