Horry County Sheriff’s Office, AARP, & Shred360 host shred event

New IdentityTheft Scam

CONWAY, SC (WBTW) – Every week it seems we’re hearing about a new scam people in the area fall victim to. One way to get rid of important documents is to burn them, but that’s not an option with our recent weather. So why not shred them?

Friday morning in Conway the Horry County Sheriff’s Office, AARP South Carolina, and Shred360 hosted a shred event. Any Horry County citizen could come by with any important documents and shred them for free.

“We’re seeing more and more scams, identity theft, alert, protection, hackers, so this is one way folks are able to know that their documents are shredded and their done away with entirely, and we want to educate the people too,” said Brooke Holden of the Horry County Sheriff’s Office. “This shred alert event is a way for us to be able to connect to the community and in a way for us to promote protection against identity theft.”

A representative from Shred360 said this was one of the busiest events he’s been a part of, with over 100 cars an hour, and he says they even started shredding early.
A woman we spoke to said she waited in line 40 minutes to shred her documents.

If you didn’t make it out to Friday’s event Holden says since Friday morning’s event was so popular, they might do this twice a year rather than just once.
