The Iowa Insurance Division plays a role in the protection, education and providing of assistance to residents and has scheduled Fraud Fighters’ webinars toward that goal. On Wednesday, July 22, they will be educating Iowans on how to avoid falling victim to online scams. During difficult times, such as this COVID-19 pandemic, scammer and con artist efforts to prosper off the hardship and trust of other is even more prevalent. This 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. webinar is free of charge and will help people recognize “get rich quick” schemes and social media scams and how to detect, avoid and report investment fraud. The second webinar will be next Wednesday and will cover much of the same information, but this time it will be for caregivers and loved ones and support their efforts to help others. The Protect Loved Ones from Investment & Medicare Scams online informational presentation will be held from noon to 1 p.m. on July 29. It will help attendees learn how to recognize fraudulent charges on Medicare statements and how they can help reduce the risk of identity theft. While there is no charge for either webinar, the Iowa Insurance Division is asking for RSVPs, which can be done through the links included below.
